Allen Behr, director of business service at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, was honored recently with a 2016 Outstanding Service Award from the Minnesota State system.
The award, presented in December in St. Paul, recognizes significant contributions in financial management at the system’s 37 four-year and two-year colleges and universities.
Behr was instrumental in developing several budget monitoring tools used at M State’s campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena, and he led a team that created an easily accessible and understandable financial snapshot that indicates amounts remaining in various department and program budgets.
“These tools have greatly eased the ability of our budget managers to monitor the finances they oversee quickly and at any time,” said M State Chief Financial Officer Pat Nordick. “Al performs a critical role for the college and does it with a professional and caring nature. He is a true asset to M State and the State of Minnesota.”
Behr, who joined M State in 1997 and works on the college’s Detroit Lakes and Moorhead campuses, also led efforts to develop an online bookstore that has meant substantial savings and improved customer service for M State’s online students.
