M State’s winter band concert features the music of Mannheim Steamroller.

Back by popular demand, the Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s annual winter band concert once again will feature the holiday music made popular by Mannheim Steamroller.

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10, in Waage Theater on M State’s Fergus Falls campus.

As in years past, the concert is once again a community collaboration, with musicians from area communities and high schools joining the M State Concert Band for the performances and volunteers decorating the theater and providing special lighting. Narration adds to the captivating experience.

M State Director of Bands Dan Carlson said he got the idea for the first Mannheim Steamroller holiday concert in 2009 after seeing the enthusiasm his students had for playing the group’s music.

“Fortunately the founder of Mannheim Steamroller has made much of the music accessible to instrumental musicians by arranging more of his famous pieces for concert band each year,” Carlson said. “Although you may have participated or attended the winter band concert in the past, the show is never the same.”

Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults and $7 in advance and $8 at the door for students and are available at the M State box office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performance; by calling 218-736-1600; or online at mstatetickets.com.
