Concert-goers will enjoy a preview of an upcoming Carnegie Hall performance during the Minnesota State Community and Technical College fall choral concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in Legacy Hall on the Fergus Falls campus.
Choral selections from “Requiem” by Gabriel Faure will be performed by an M State mass choir and the community Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Teresa Ashworth and accompanied by David Stoddard and Sylvia Nygaard.
The mass choir will include the college’s Concert Choir, Voice Ensemble and Chamber Chorale.
Twenty-five members of M State’s Concert Choir will travel to New York in April for the National Two-Year Community College Festival, where they will perform “Requiem” with other community college choirs from throughout the country.
Ashworth described “Requiem” as an uplifting celebration of eternal life with a theme of “peace and quiet beauty.” Soloists will be soprano Kim Blumburg and baritone Braden Ashworth, both M State alumni.
The concert also will include performances by the Concert Choir with solos by soprano Laura Tungseth and alto Mary Gettel, the Voice Ensemble and the Chamber Chorale with solos by soprano Sue Kilde and saxophonist Kris Lein. The Chamber Chorale selections include a tribute to military veterans, with Phillip Phillips’ “Home” featuring Braden Ashworth on percussion, David Stoddard on guitar and Alex Munsterman on bass.
Alto Sandy Thimgan and soprano Carol Tornquist will be featured soloists in the final combined choir performance of “We Rise Again.”
Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults and $7 in advance and $8 at the door for students and are available at the M State box office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performance; by calling 218-736-1600; or online at mstatetickets.com.
