On to nationals for M State Automotive student who wins gold in SkillsUSA

skills 1Automotive student Ryan Poppen of Moorhead was a first-place winner in the Automotive Service Technology category in the recent Minnesota SkillsUSA competition in Bloomington. He now advances to compete in the organization’s national contest in Louisville, Ky., in June.

Poppen is a second-year student in the Automotive Technology program at Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Moorhead campus.

Also representing M State in the Minnesota SkillsUSA competition was Automotive Technology student Sean Helgeson of Moorhead.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit that serves high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. Its state and national competitions are based on industry-driven occupational skills standards.

Automotive instructors Shannon Mohn, Dennis Miller and Scott Ripplinger are the SkillsUSA advisors for automotive students on the Moorhead campus.
