Officials at Concordia College and Minnesota State Community and Technical College have announced a new partnership that offers a unique scholarship opportunity for M State students who transfer to Concordia to complete their education.
At a ceremony Feb. 11 in Moorhead, officials from Concordia and M State marked Concordia’s partnership in up2U, which rewards high-achieving M State graduates who transfer to four-year partner institutions to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Students who successfully complete Up2U requirements and transfer to Concordia will be able to earn scholarships of up to $18,000 per year for their junior and senior years.
“Concordia College is offering students a unique opportunity for rich learning, cultural vibrancy and success beyond college,” said up2U Program Director Paul Carney. “M State’s up2U students now have an opportunity to attend, at minimal cost, one of the finest private colleges in the country. Concordia College, through its rich tradition of academic excellence, represents hope and promise for M State students who may have thought a Concordia experience was financially unattainable.”
The up2U program is open to students on M State campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena. Students must enroll in the program as incoming freshmen, meet academic standards and demonstrate critical thinking and writing skills while completing an M State degree within three years.
Carney said today’s employers want employees who can think critically, solve problems and communicate effectively, and “Up2U supports students in developing and mastering these skills.”
“Through its generous up2U scholarship, Concordia College is providing an incentive that will motivate and inspire students to complete their degrees,” M State President Peggy Kennedy said. “With its participation in this innovative program, Concordia and M State demonstrate their shared commitment to making quality higher education more accessible and affordable.”
Other up2U partner universities are Minnesota State University Moorhead and St. Cloud State University. The program was developed by M State in 2013 as a means to improve academic quality while encouraging students to complete degrees and allow them to reduce their student loan debt.
