Long-term care providers are among the major employers of practical nurses, and administrators at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls noted that new funds appropriated by the 2015 Minnesota Legislature allow these providers to significantly raise wages for nursing staff throughout the state.

“The growth opportunity and available jobs we have in senior care are remarkable,” said Nathan Johnson, CEO for PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. “We need lots of good people to choose these careers, and we are now able to elevate the economic status of these careers.”

Special scholarships are available to nursing assistants currently employed at long-term care facilities. These scholarships, through the Minnesota Department of Health, may cover tuition, books, mandatory fees, required supplies and equipment, reasonable child care and transportation expenses for eligible employees.

M State’s 40-credit Practical Nursing program is approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and is offered on the college’s campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Wadena.
