M State Band celebrates the season with music from around the world

FallBand.inddCome along on a trip around the world as the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Band shares an evening of international seasonal favorites at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in Waage Theater on the college’s Fergus Falls campus.

Volunteers decorate the theater for the festive holiday performance, which is one of the favorites of M State band members. This year’s concert is entitled “Twas the Night Before Christmas and All Through the World.”

“The camaraderie and true love for this style of music among the band members is evident,” said M State Director of Bands Dan Carlson. “Music lovers, bring a friend and warm up your holiday with these musical favorites!”

Selections performed by the 40-plus musicians will include “Night Before Christmas” narrated by Dennis Johnson, “Russian Christmas,” “Feliz Navidad” and “Travelogue,” which features Catalonian, Provencal, Czech, Polish, English and French traditional carols.

In addition, the band will play “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra – the popular song that serves as the musical backdrop for many of the outdoor holiday lighting displays featured on television and online.

There will also be selections for the Mannheim Steamroller fans in the audience.

Ticket prices are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults and $7 in advance or $8 at the door for students. Tickets are on sale at the M State Box Office (C325) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performances, by calling 736-1600 or online at mstatetickets.com.
