Warm up with the hot sounds of the M State Jazz Band

The Minnesota State Community and Technical College Jazz Band invites the community to warm up with the hot sounds of jazz at its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, in Waage Theatre on the Fergus Falls campus.

The Jazz Band, directed by Dan Carlson, will heat things up with some barn-burning, upbeat swing including “Wind Machine,” “Cut to the Chase” and a return of Count Bubba with “Count Bubba’s Revenge.” Will Count Bubba get his revenge? Come and find out!

The evening also will include funk, waltzes featuring the band’s own Joseph “Duke Ellington” Tranvik, Tim Rostad on “Child is Born” and the trombone section performing “My Buddy.”

Other featured soloists for the evening are Kristofer Lein, Levi Soydara, Josh Wheeler, Jennifer Kaminski-Horak and M State alumnus Jim Worner. The band will close with rock tunes “Dancing in the Street,” “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.”

The M State Combo also will perform several numbers including “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby.”
