Graphic design students recognized for creative skills

IMG_3650_smTwo Minnesota State Community and Technical College students collected major industry awards in the student category of the ADDY competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of North Dakota on Feb. 28.

Tim Samuelson of Fargo and Danielle Verhey of Minot, N.D., were among only six gold ADDY student award winners. Both are first-year students in the Graphic Design Technology program on M State’s Moorhead campus.

Samuelson was awarded a top prize for a black and white photo in the photography category. Verhey’s winning entry in the illustration category was a poster that featured an original hand-rendered illustration.

There were 55 entrants in the student portion of the ADDY awards, which honor excellence in advertising and encourage high creative standards. Also competing were students from Minnesota State University Moorhead, Concordia College and Bismarck State College.

All gold ADDY winners go on to compete at the district-level ADDY competition, where they will compete with student entries from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
