M State, SMSU musicians combine for March 31 concert

Music lovers have a unique opportunity to enjoy performances by two area colleges as Minnesota State Community and Technical College and Southwest Minnesota State University join together for a choir and band concert in Legacy Hall on M State’s Fergus Falls campus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.

The concert will include individual and combined performances by M State’s Concert Choir and Concert Band, directed by Teresa Ashworth and Dan Carlson, and SMSU’s Chorale and Symphonic Chamber Winds, directed by Dr. Stephen Kingsbury and Dr. John Ginocchio.

The groups will combine for two movements of “Frostiana” by American composer Randall Thompson.
Ashworth, who directs the Concert Choir, said the combined concert celebrates completion of an articulation agreement that allows M State students who earn an Associate of Fine Arts music degree to transfer seamlessly into SMSU’s baccalaureate music degree program.

Ticket prices are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults and $7 in advance or $8 at the door for students. Tickets are on sale at the M State Box Office (C325) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performances, by calling 736-1600 or online at mstatetickets.com.
