M State nursing graduates honored in pinning ceremonies

More than 50 nursing graduates will be honored this month during pinning ceremonies on the Detroit Lakes and Moorhead campuses of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

The ceremony for 35 graduates of the Associate Degree nursing program on the Detroit Lakes campus will be Friday, Dec. 12, on the campus.

The Moorhead Practical Nursing pinning ceremony for 19 PN students will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, which will be the site of M State’s Fall Semester commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. that day.

The pinning ceremony is a tradition that marks the completion of a student’s nursing education. A pin, unique to each college’s nursing program, is placed on each student’s nursing uniform and signifies the transition from student to practicing professional.

Following validation from the dean for completion of their programs, the students are eligible to sit for the respective National Council of State Boards of Nursing exam that determines their initial eligibility to hold a license to practice nursing.
