M State presents classic comedy ‘The Nerd’

Laughs take center stage in upcoming performances of The Nerd at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Fergus Falls.

Mykey Watchorn of Frazee plays the role of Willum Cubbert, an aspiring young architect who often tells friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, played by Sam Brown of Fergus Falls. Rick is a fellow ex-GI who saved Willum’s life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam, although the two men have never met.

Willum is delighted when Rick shows up at his apartment unexpectedly, but it soon becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless nerd – a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact.

The comedy’s cast also includes M State students Teresa Widiger of Fergus Falls, Austin Begley of Fergus Falls, Gaige Jevne of Underwood, Miranda Hubert of Fergus Falls and Avery Votava of Fergus Falls.

The Nerd, written by Larry Shue, is directed by Stefanie Gerhardson.

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 6-8, and 2 p.m. Nov. 9 in Waage Theatre on the Fergus Falls campus.

Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the door for adults, and $7 in advance and $8 at the door for students. Tickets can be purchased at the M State Box Office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour to the performance, by calling 218.736.1600 or online at www.mstatetickets.com.
