M State student art making community appearances

The artistic talents of students on Minnesota State Community and Technical College’s Moorhead campus will be on display at the Moorhead Center Mall during the month of May.

The exhibition will feature the 12 paintings, photographs and drawings that were entered in the recent 3rd Annual M State Juried Student Art Competition and Exhibition.

The competition’s Best of Show prize was awarded to Anthony Gerling of Spokane, Wash., for his acrylic painting entitled Chocolate Covered Biscuit Sticks. Other award winners were HyunJung Choi  fo Seoul, Korea (1st and 3rd place) and Keah Nelson of Moorhead (2nd place).

Also featured in the exhibition will be artwork by Someyyeh Khavari, Cynthia Kile, Holger Loor, Nicole Nistler, Trevor Raymond and Daniel Savageau. Kris Kerzman, digital media producer for The Arts Partnership, served as juror for the competition.

“Through our affiliation with the Moorhead Center Mall, M State is able to strengthen our presence in the community and expand our students’ outreach,” said M State art instructor Jo Titus, who coordinated the competition and exhibition. “This exhibition enhances student involvement in the community, and I’d like to encourage everyone to stop by the Moorhead Center Mall to support our student body and their achievements.”

The artwork previously was displayed in the Fargo and Moorhead public libraries and is now on M State’s Fergus Falls campus. In June it will be at Spanky’s Stone Hearth restaurant in Frazee.
