BES courses target business professionals

Business professionals can benefit from courses offered this fall by Business & Entrepreneurial Services on the Detroit Lakes campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

The fast-track schedule for three credit-based courses is designed for business professionals who want topics that are relevant and current, with classes offered at times that are convenient for working professionals.  The credit courses currently offered this fall include:

Marketing 1200 – Social Media, offered from 6-8:50 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 11-Dec. 6. The course, taught by Bryan Christensen, focuses on the use of social media in marketing businesses and products with the goal of enabling businesses to reach untapped market segments.

Accounting 2211 – Intro to Accounting, offered from 4-6:50 p.m. Wednesdays from Oct. 17-Dec. 19. Students will learn about the accounting model, financial statements, merchandise accounting, internal controls and accounting for decision-making in a business. The instructor is Michele Wilkens.

Marketing 1050 – Direct Sales, offered from 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Nov. 19-Dec.19.  Students will learn the aspects of selling that are vital to business success in the direct sales world, including one-on-one selling, presentation selling and creating win/win negotiations.  The student textbook is included in the fee for this course, taught by Bryan Christensen.

The fee for each of the credit courses is $530.

In addition, M State BES is offering a non-credit course, Preparing the Entrepreneur Venture, a comprehensive introduction to entrepreneurship that will include presentations by area professionals, hands-on learning opportunities and business mentoring. The course is offered from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 3-Dec. 15 and is taught by Bryan Christensen. The $350 fee for this course includes the textbook.

“Students who have been exposed to the PEV curriculum have gained a wealth of knowledge that prepared them to start making their business dreams a reality,” Christensen said.
