Writing does matter! This course will cover written communication skills necessary for the effective supervisor today. Participants will learn to write clear documentation of problems and possible solutions, clear disciplinary warnings and corresponding documentation. Writing performance reviews, brief memos, letters and emails to others in the organization is also part of the course. A light bit of grammar review and sentence structure, too!

Participants will learn to:

Conducting Performance Appraisals

This course will help supervisors address the generally difficult part of appraising performance - that being unacceptable behavior. Supervisors will learn techniques to help make this discussion more performance focused and improvement oriented.

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify the performance problems.
  • Describe the problem(s) clearly and concisely.
  • Use words and phrases to start the conversation.
  • Manage emotional responses.
  • Manage excuses.
  • Apply techniques toward performance improvement.


Dealing with Difficult People

In any organization there are people who are difficult to manage and just plain difficult to work with. This can cause a multitude of problems within the organization if not handled well. This course will review various behaviors that make it difficult to deal with certain people and appropriate tactics for handling these behaviors.

Participants will learn to:

  • Discuss causes of difficult behaviors.
  • Identify common difficult behaviors and effective ways of dealing with each of these behaviors.

Leading the Customer Service Charge

Managers will learn their role in driving customer service as a strategic goal. This course is designed for employees whose job responsibilities include creating and delivering training to other employees in formal and informal settings. The course will teach participants how to develop outlines and training curriculum, prepare presentations as well as other delivery methods such as on-the-job training, apply training principles and techniques, assess learning progress, and conduct an evaluation of the training. Trainees will prepare and deliver a relevant training module utilizing the steps of the training system. This training will be highly interactive and application driven. Participants will create a personalized "trainer manual" applying this learning to specifically prompt them as trainers to ensure their own training.
