Description
Meets MnTC Goal Area 6. Students will explore the process of taking a play script from the page to the stage. Students will study various plays, identify literary elements and explore how actors, designers or directors use the text of a play to understand the historical period, setting, dialogue and character objectives.
Competencies
  1. Use appropriate theatre terminology to analyze a script to identify elements such as genre, conflict, plot structure, units/beats, subtext, theme, style and social context.
  2. Describe how dramatic literary conventions and the social and historical context of drama are shaped by the culture and time in which it was written.
  3. Analyze plays from various cultures and time periods.
  4. Express an informed personal, critical reaction to the text of a play.
  5. Interpret plays from various perspectives such as actor, designer or director.
  6. Critique the ways in which various performers and designers have interpreted a playwright's intent.
