Learn the skills for entry-level employment as a sign language interpreter who works to facilitate communication between hearing people and individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
In addition to sign language skills, M State's 64-credit AAS degree in Sign Language Interpreter Preparation provides students with an understanding of Deaf culture and the role of interpreters. Students are immersed in the Deaf community and culture and learn in the classroom, in practice labs and through internships where they gain experience on the job.
You'll apply the skills you've learned during supervised internships that provide valuable on-the-job experience.
o M State introduces students to interpreter certification exams and provides study materials for both the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and the National Interpreter Certification (NIC). M State is an approved EIPA test site.
