M State’s Equine Science program offers students unparalleled and invaluable experience at one of the region’s premiere privately owned equine facilities.
M State's Equine Science AAS degree and diploma provide students with the introductory skills for an array of careers in the equine industry including stable management, horse training, horse judging and riding instruction. The program's courses, taught by working professionals, are a combination of academic learning and real-life applications.
Courses are taught on the M State campus in Fergus Falls and nearby at Red Horse Ranch Arena, a world-class training, boarding and events facility. You'll gain hands-on experience at a busy equine business facility, giving you a unique advantage in the job market. Courses include judging, evaluating, training, barn management, equine reproduction and farrier science.
Students who enroll in the 31-credit diploma program can choose to continue their education in the 60-credit AAS degree program, which provides additional work experience through internships. The degree program can serve as a foundation for a bachelor's degree in equine science or for pre-veterinary or pre-veterinary technology programs.

This program will build upon the introductory skills gained in the Equine Science diploma program at M State and Red Horse Ranch. Additional academic theory and general education transfer courses will be taken online while the student works at an approved internship site. This degree and internship experience will give the student the finished skills necessary for careers in stable management, breeding, training, judging, riding instruction and related occupations.
This program will provides a blend of transferable college credit courses along with specific academic and hands-on equine courses. This diploma will give students the introductory skills necessary for careers in stable management, horse training, horse judging, riding instruction or other related occupations. In addition, this program can serve as a starting point for a bachelor's degree program in equine science, a pre-veterinary program or a pre-veterinary technology program. Students in this program may also wish to use it as a foundation for a life-long equine learning experience as a horse owner/rider. Courses are taught at the M State campus and at Red Horse Ranch Arena, a world-class training/boarding/events facility located six miles northeast of Fergus Falls. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice their skills at a busy, private equine business facility. This gives M State students a unique advantage when entering the job market since they will possess a diploma that reflects a combination of academic learning and real-life application.
