Welcome to M State Nursing

Welcome to M State Nursing! Whether you are starting your nursing career or continuing your professional nursing education, we are excited to provide you with an excellent educational experience.

Upon completion of our Associate of Science Nursing Program, students are prepared for licensure as a Registered Nurse and employment in hospitals, long-term care centers, medical clinics, community health facilities and other health-related facilities.

Students have two options for obtaining this degree:

  • Associate Degree Registered Nurse - Generic is designed for students without any prior nursing background. The two-year, 64-credit program is offered on the M State campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Wadena.
  • Associate Degree Registered Nurse - Mobility is for licensed Practical/Vocational nurses who are seeking to become Registered Nurses. Students receive 11 credits for previously completing their Practical Nursing degree and join the Associate Degree Registered Nurse - Generic students in the second year of their professional nursing program. Students earn 32 credits in the one-year program, which is offered on the M State campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena.

Upon completion of the Practical Nursing program are prepared for licensure as a Practical Nurse and careers in long-term care centers and ambulatory care facilities.

The Practical Nursing program has two options:

  • Practical Nursing - Diploma: Students earn 50 credits over three semesters. The diploma program is offered on the M State campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus falls and Wadena.
  • Practical Nursing - Associate of Applied Science degree: Students earn 62 credits in the program, offered on the M State campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena.

Associate Degree (RN Mobility) Admissions Exam

The Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam (NACE I): Foundations of Nursing, offered through the National League for Nursing, will be the primary criteria for admission to the M State Associate Degree (Mobility) Nursing Program. Refer to the NACE I Frequently Asked Questions below.

NACE I Registration:

To view test dates and register for the NACE I exam, click here to go to the NLN website and click "Register." You will need to create an account with NLN; you will then be allowed to register for a test date. NLN adds updated test dates to the site regularly.


 

Practical Nursing and Associate Degree (RN Generic) Nursing Admissions Exam

The National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination for Practical Nursing (PAX-PN) is required for admission to the M State Practical Nursing Program. The Pre-Admission Examination for Register Nursing (PAX-RN) is required for admission to the Associate Degree (RN Generic) Nursing program. Refer to the PAX Frequently Asked Questions below for more information about these exams.

To view test dates and register for the PAX-PN or PAX-RN, click here to go to the NLN website and click "Register." You will need to create an account with NLN; you will then be allowed to register for a test date. NLN adds additional test dates to the site regularly. Be sure to register for the correct exam: PAX-PN is for Practical Nursing and PAX-RN is for Associate Degree (RN Generic) Nursing.
