Kristi M. Hilton, MS, NAD IV, Ed: K-12, has more than 27 years of experience as a sign language interpreter and has been an instructor in the American Sign Language (ASL) department at M State for over 16 years. She holds an associate of applied science degree in sign language interpreting from Southeast Technical Institute, a bachelor’s degree in American studies with an emphasis in Deaf studies from Minnesota State University in Moorhead (MSUM), and a master’s degree in educational leadership from MSUM.
Hilton is certified by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and holds Ed: K-12 credentialing through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Her interpreting experience spans a wide range of settings, including early childhood, K-12, postsecondary education, medical and mental health environments, vocational rehabilitation and video remote interpreting.
In addition to teaching, Hilton serves as a mentor to interpreting students and practicing interpreters working toward certification. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating a welcoming environment while ensuring meaningful access to education for all learners.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys floating in the lake on hot summer days.
