Dr. Heidi Dyrstad is a Doctor of Philosophy with over 30 years of teaching experience. She considers herself a lifelong learner and thinks of teaching as both a process and a product.
Dyrstad strives to continuously learn about others and experience new things, a mindset she believes fosters interest and curiosity that, in turn, can enrich her classroom instruction. Her guiding personal and professional philosophy is that everyone has a life unbeknownst to others; things in their minds and hearts that others are completely unaware of. Reminding herself of what she does not know, Dyrstad believes, helps her check her natural tendency to assume things about the world around her.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys the outdoors through activities like swimming, hiking and snowshoeing. She shares her home with pets and has fostered animals, and she is curious about that which she does not know, including people, foods, activities and cultures in general.
