Shana Petermann has been a faculty member in biological sciences at M State since 2002. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in microbiology from North Dakota State University (NDSU). Prior to joining M State, she worked as a microbiologist in NDSU’s Department of Veterinary and Microbiological Sciences. She later became a biotechnology program advisor at M State.
Petermann approaches teaching as a shared experience, viewing her courses as belonging to her students as much as to her. She believes it is a privilege to teach and strives to bring full energy, enthusiasm and presence to every class session. Her goal is to help students master course content, strengthen critical thinking skills and develop confidence while genuinely enjoying the learning process. She is passionate about guiding students into the world of microbiology and ensuring they feel valued, supported and prepared for what comes next.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time at the lake with family, friends and her animal companions.
