Iesalnieks, Lacher honored with state system Board of Trustees Awards

M State faculty members Mara Iesalnieks and Marcus Lacher have been named 2026 recipients of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence, the system’s highest recognition for teaching excellence.
They are among 27 total faculty across Minnesota State selected this year as Outstanding Educators. The competitive selection process begins at the college level and culminates in presidential nominations to the Board of Trustees. Honorees will be formally recognized at a luncheon with the board on April 22.
The awards recognize faculty who demonstrate a consistently superior commitment to student learning and the ongoing pursuit of excellence in higher education. Established in 2007, they honor faculty whose instruction prepares students for their professional, scholarly and civic lives, reflecting the dedication and accomplishments of Minnesota State educators.
“Marcus and Mara exemplify the very best of M State’s faculty – innovative, compassionate educators who place student success at the center of everything they do,” says M State President Carrie Brimhall. “Their work transforms lives, strengthens our communities and reflects the high standards of excellence we strive for across the college.”
