M State’s Fergus Falls campus has been designated a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists, a national biking advocacy organization. The league announced the recognition in November as part of its 2025 awards celebration, highlighting the campus’s commitment to supporting safe, accessible biking.

With this recognition, M State joins 204 colleges and universities in 42 states currently participating in the league’s Bicycle Friendly America program.

M State encourages bicycling as a healthy, sustainable way to get around campus – and it’s a popular choice for Fergus Falls students. Thanks to a recent $6,500 grant from PartnerSHIP 4 Health, the college is introducing new resources to enhance the biking experience. A bike repair station, recently installed near the heart of the Fergus Falls campus, offers tools for quick fixes like pumping tires, adjusting brakes and tightening bolts. Soon, Fergus Falls students can also take advantage of a free bike borrowing program, complete with safety gear.

PartnerSHIP 4 Health is a regional collaboration focused on improving public health through prevention and sustainable change.

As the Fergus Falls campus continues to expand bike accessibility, the League of American Bicyclists will provide access to a variety of free tools, resources and technical assistance to further enhance the bike-friendly environment. Increased biking contributes to a smaller carbon footprint, reduced healthcare costs, stronger community connections and a fun, healthy campus culture.

The award designation is good for four years, through 2029.
