David Cresap joined M State as Head Coach of the Spartan Men's Basketball Team in 2023 after nearly 40 years of coaching high school boys basketball in Minnesota and North Dakota.
Cresap’s high school record in Minnesota includes five state tournament appearances and 10 conference championships. He is an eight-time Section Coach of the Year, two-time Minnesota Coach of the Year, and was named National Male Sport Coach of the Year in 2011. In 2022, he was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
A 1980 graduate of M State, Cresap played on the Spartan basketball team for two years, leading the conference in assists while breaking the Spartans career assist record.
As a coach, he emphasizes relationship-building and looks for student-athletes who are hard workers and have a passion for the game. Off the court, he enjoys spending time with family, yardwork, and card collecting.
