M State - Moorhead HR students earn award

September 25th, 2009 to December 31st, 2009

For the third year in a row, the Student Human Resource Organization at Minnesota State Community and Technical College - Moorhead has received national recognition for its activities. SHRO received the national Society for Human Resource Management's Merit Award for 2008-09 "for an exceptional job of providing opportunities for growth and development to its student chapter members." The Moorhead organization has about two dozen members, most of them students in the Human Resources program. The chapter's advisor is Loren Haagenson, a human resources instructor at M State - Moorhead. To qualify for the award, the M State chapter completed activities in different categories including the professional operation of the chapter, chapter leadership, promoting SHRM, and chapter programming and professional development. On campus, the Moorhead chapter was involved in raising funds for a scholarship for human resource students and volunteering at the campus Job Fair. "The Merit Award program exists to recognize our top student chapters," said Chuck Salvetti, SHRM's student programs manager. "These chapters represent the best of our more than 450 affiliated student chapters and demonstrate this through their ability to provide innovative networking and educational opportunities to their members. These opportunities are extremely valuable to students preparing to enter the field of human resources." SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management.
