Go, Big Blue!

Spartan team sports at M State offer exciting action for both players and spectators. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, M State offers womens intercollegiate volleyball, golf, basketball and softball and mens intercollegiate football, golf, basketball and baseball.

Intercollegiate teams are based on the Fergus Falls campus and are open to participation by all qualifying M State students.

A growing college-wide intramural program offers more ways to be a Spartan with opportunities to participate in bowling, basketball, soccer, volleyball and ping pong.

Maria participated in women's basketball and softball during her freshman and sophomore years and was a two-year Academic Athlete. She was named to the MCAC Honorable Mention All Division basketball team as a freshman, and as a sophomore Maria was named second team All Division for basketball and first team All Division for softball.

Peter Gaustad, a sophomore and 2012 graduate of Fergus Falls High School, was honored as the Male Student Athlete of the Year. He is captain of the 2014 squad.

Coaches Award

The Coaches Award recognizes the students who best exemplify Spartan Pride and exhibit the dedication and hard work that make M State a great place to work and participate in athletics. Winners are selected by Spartan athletic coaches. This year's recipients are Donna Ripplinger and Alvin Freeman.

Donna was recognized for her willingness to help whenever needed and for her positive personality. "She always stops by the coaches' offices to see if there is anything that needs to be done," the coaches wrote. "Her attitude and work ethic are appreciated in the Athletic Department."

Alvin has worked for the football and softball programs and in concessions for volleyball and basketball. "He has a great work ethic and a fun personality and is definitely deserving of this award," according to the coaches.
