Spartans Travel South to Open Baseball Season

The M State Spartans kick off the baseball season with their traditional week-long road trip to Florida during spring break.

Between March 8 and 13, the Spartans play ball for close to eight hours a day, with games scheduled against community college teams from Buffalo and Schenectady, N.Y., and Canadian select teams from Ontario and Quebec. Players will also have a chance to attend a preseason game between the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves.

"The trip is always a great success," said Spartan Coach Jarrod Asmus. "We have a lot of fun and learn many things by being outside for the first time in a young season."

The Spartans begin their regular season at the Metrodome on March 22 when they play the Saint Cloud State University junior varsity.
