Go, Big Blue!

Spartan team sports at M State offer exciting action for both players and spectators. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, M State offers womens intercollegiate volleyball, golf, basketball and softball and mens intercollegiate football, golf, basketball and baseball. Intercollegiate teams are based on the Fergus Falls campus and are open to participation by all qualifying M State students. A growing college-wide intramural program offers more ways to be a Spartan with opportunities to participate in bowling, basketball, soccer, volleyball and ping pong.

2016 All Sports Banquet Honors Spartan Athletes

Eggen, Pal Named Spartan Student Athletes of the Year

The M State Spartan athletic department held its 43rd All Sports Banquet on April 25 at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls. This event recognizes the individual and team accomplishments of the Spartan athletic teams. Also included in the evening is the selection by the coaching staff of the Student Athlete of the Year and the Coaches Award.

Female Student Athlete of the Year

Heidi Eggen, a sophomore from Ada, was selected the Female Student Athlete of the Year. Heidi has been named a Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Academic Athlete in all four semesters of attendance at M State. She participated in volleyball and basketball both years and was named to the MCAC Southern Division Honorable Mention basketball team.

Heidi was a key member of the volleyball and basketball teams. Both teams advanced to the regional tournaments this year, meaning that she was involved in a varsity sport for the Lady Spartans continuously from the middle of August until the first of March. She will graduate on the Fergus Falls campus with an Associate in Arts Degree on May 5.

Male Student Athlete of the Year

On the men's side, Chany Pal was selected as the Male Student Athlete of the Year. Chany is a sophomore from Fridley and participated for two years in basketball.

Chany played forward for the Spartans and was the leading rebounder for the MCAC Southern Division. He was also selected First Team All-Division by the Southern Division coaches.

Chany will graduate with an Associate in Arts degree May 5.

Male and Female Coaches Awards

The Spartan coaching staff also selects a male and female recipient of its Coaches Award. This award is presented to a student athlete who has been extremely important to the athletic department in attitude and willingness to assist where needed.

Selected as the recipient of the Women's Coaches Award was sophomore Kelsey Miller from Glenwood. Kelsey has been the statistician for softball and volleyball in her tenure at M State - Fergus Falls. She will graduate with her Associate of Arts degree on May 5 and will return to complete her degree in Business Management.

Battle Lake native Tyler Ranstad received the Men's Coaches Award for his contribution to the M State athletic department. Tyler is the statistician for basketball and is employed in the department as a work study student. Tyler plans to continue his education at M State - Fergus Falls next year.

Spartan Athletes Recognized at 2015 All Sports Banquet

Pratt, Hanson Named Spartan Student Athletes of the Year

Minnesota State Community and Technical College's Spartan athletic department held its 42nd All Sports Banquet on May 4 in Legacy Hall on the Fergus Falls campus. This event recognizes the individual and team accomplishments of the Spartan athletic teams. Also included in the evening is the selection by the coaching staff of the Student Athlete of the Year and the Coaches Award.

Female Student Athlete of the Year

Danielle Pratt, a sophomore from Clarissa and a graduate of Eagle Valley High School, was honored as the Female Student Athlete of the Year. Pratt was a three-sport standout for the Lady Spartans, participating in volleyball, basketball and softball. She also is a two-year recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and has been recognized in each of her four semesters as a Minnesota College Athletic Conference All-Division Academic Athlete. She was named 2nd Team All Division in volleyball this fall.

Danielle will receive her Associate in Arts degree and an Associate in Science degree in accounting and will transfer to Bemidji State University.

Male Student Athlete of the Year

Fergus Fall native Austin Hanson was honored as Male Student Athlete of the Year. Austin plays left field and second base for the Spartan baseball team and has been an outstanding student and a team leader for two years. Austin was an MCAC Academic Athlete for spring of 2014 and will receive the same recognition this spring.

Austin earned his Associate in Arts degree and is transferring to Minnesota State University Mankato.

Male and Female Coaches Awards

The Spartan coaching staff also selects a male and female recipient of its Coaches Award, presented to a student athlete who has been extremely important to the athletic department in attitude and willingness to assist where needed.

The Female Coaches Award was presented to Cheyanne O'Neal, a sophomore from Battle Lake, and the Male Coaches Award was presented to Jake Torgerson, a sophomore from Morris.
