Dale began work at M State on the auspicious date of 8-8-88, focusing on recruiting and marketing before he joined the enrollment management team. He is a graduate of M State, earning a degree in Sales and Marketing. One of the changes he's seen during his M State career is an immense improvement in the transferability of credits, both to and from M State, and especially for students who opt to transfer to colleges within the Minnesota State College and Universities system.
"With enrollment limited in some M State programs and career fields competitive, take time to make the right career decision. Research the career fields that interest you, meet with academic advisors and students currently in the programs you're considering, and check out employment and job placement trends."
Dale's interests include the seemingly unrelated pastimes of woodworking and curling because of the strategy and mental concentration that both require.
Dave earned his AA degree from M State in Fergus Falls and his bachelor's degree in communication/public relations from Northwestern College in St. Paul. His advice for prospective students is, first, that reading brochures and visiting websites are convenient ways to begin a college search, but a college visit is the only way to truly experience the culture and atmosphere on a campus. Second, once you've scheduled your college visits, consider both your educational goals and your extracurricular interests when you pick a college.
"College should provide opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Extracurricular activities provide real-world experiences that can be hard to come by in the classroom."
Outside of work, Dave is most often outdoors. He loves endurance sports and spends his summers competing in triathlons, mountain bike races and half marathons. In May 2013, he's setting out on a 15-day coast-to-coast bike ride to establish a Dream Big Scholarship for Fergus Area College Foundation.
Jessica earned her bachelor's degree in political science and economics from Concordia College in Moorhead and joined the M State enrollment team in 2008.
"The best part of my job is introducing incoming students to M State and watching them get excited about their future. I love showing off the amazing Fergus Falls campus and everything it has to offer."
Jessica lives in Fergus Falls with her husband and children and enjoys cooking, playing Barbies with her daughters and making bad jokes at her husband's expense, and she often can be found talking to anyone with ears.
Heidi joined the M State admissions staff in 2012 after working in student services at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She earned her Master of Science degree from MSUM and an administrative license from St. Mary's University. Her best advice for prospective students: Do your research so you can choose a college and a career that align with your goals and dreams.
"I continuously hear from students who are impressed by our small class sizes and variety of programs. The faculty and staff at M State are committed to student success, and the support systems we have in place greatly contribute to student achievement."
Outside of M State, Heidi enjoys time with family and friends, running, reading and activities at the lake.
Laura joined the enrollment team in 2013 after earning a bachelor's degree in public relations and advertising; management communication from North Dakota State University.
She says the best advice she can offer to prospective students is to visit the campus they're planning to attend so they can see the campus in person and have an opportunity to get their questions answered.
"M State is a great place for students who want smaller class sizes, career and technical programs, or a place to earn an associate degree before transferring to a four-year school. My advice to students is to really explore their options. M State has a lot to offer, with convenient schedules, transfer programs and technical degrees that let you start a career in two years or less."
Outside of the office, Laura enjoys traveling, being active, cooking and "anything crafty."
Josh is in his rookie season at M State after earning a degree in political science from Saint Cloud State University and a master's degree in human resource development and adult education from the University of Minnesota.
His advice to students is to use the resources that are available to them - and use them early and often. Talk to the instructors if you're struggling. Don't let issues linger, because they tend to get worse over time. Remember that everyone at M State is committed to your success and wants to see you achieve your goals.
"The employer demand for our graduates is remarkable. We get calls all the time from employers asking if we have students to fill their positions … and these are very good-paying careers with outstanding organizations."
Josh fills his free time with an eclectic mix of activities that include hunting and fishing, music festivals, yoga, fantasy football, free samples at Costco and playing with his dog, George.
